My friends, we’ve hit it. Today is my NYC-aversary which also marks the technical end of NYC decade-aversary.
Now, as we know from a past edition, my NYC decade-aversary didn’t really go the way I’d hoped it would, with a bunch of activities and places and people and things and nouns in general.
While my time was relatively unlimited, my resources were limited. The good news is I’ll never have not lived in NYC for less than a decade from here on out so there may yet be some NYC decade-aversary activities in my future.
Don’t worry, this midweek missive is not the “eleven years in NYC, oh gee” wax poetic sort of email. That’s for Sunday. It is, more or less, a sales type email. (Forgive me. But also, I business. I’m a business person!)
Before I Business, let me just say—THANK YOU.
I’m sending this to all subscribers because I really want to thank you for being here, whether you are a free or paid subscriber. Thank you for reading, even if you only read occasionally. It really means so much to me. I use my newsletter as a space to be funny and existential and poignant and snarky. I use the newsletter to experiment and explore different sides of my writing. I use it to be vulnerable in ways I often am not in real life. All of that can be scary but y’all that are here, you make it a little less so. /sap
Okay. The Business:
For the last year, all new paid subscriptions have been 10%. Well, for the rest of the month, all new paid subscriptions will be 24% off.* And that’s forever. No term limit. Ten for the decade and 24 because that’s the year number, get it?! Click this! It’s the link!
So, if you’ve been thinking about upgrading, now is a great time! If you’ve been thinking about sharing this newsletter and bullying people into subscribing (free or paid), now is a great time!
What a great time to support new writing in general! Huzzah!
There is a lot of discourse about how Substack changes writer’s lives and it’s the (current) hub for the best new writing across sectors and look at all these people who can now make a living from their writing. Honestly, I haven’t necessarily felt momentum in that way. I’d love my writing (this and playwriting…and creative consulting…and and and) to fully support me. If you can help make that happen, I’d be forever grateful. But, there is more to this space than all that.
In the end, I feel lucky to have this newsletter to write about all sorts of topics (I should probably get a niche but I have a lot to say, it turns out) and so happy to have any readership out there at all.
On this, the day of my daughter’s wedding…er, my 11th NYC-aversary, I’m just feeling really thankful for where this journey in New York has led me and how, in many ways, I probably wouldn’t even have considered starting a newsletter if not for what I’ve learned about myself in this city. I’m really thankful for how it’s introduced me to all of you.
That’s all. (Business! Person!)
*If you’d like to upgrade to a paid subscription but don’t have the funds to do so, let me know.
