It’s the end of another month so, yes it’s me again. Hi all.
And by all, I mean literally all. Today, I’m sending out the monthly haiku salon to all subscribers, paying or not. Consider it a special near-end-of-year bonus. A near-end-of-year bonus that also comes with an end-of-year special.
The monthly literary salon filled with haikus normally arrives on the last Tuesday of the month and is a perk for paid subscribers. Occasionally I also send out editions of the Tryping My Best Moment of the Week—a recount of something funny, embarrassing, and/or painful I did—or Death by Disney—a look at all the times characters in animated films would have died if they were real people. But mostly, at this point, it’s the haikus. They are almost always inspired by a theme chosen in a poll at the end of the previous newsletter by readers. So, all y’all are inspiring ART. And all y’all are also inspiring me and I thank you for that.
Last month, I was a week late sending out the monthly haiku salon and ended up sending it on November 5th. That’s right, Election Day. The newsletter went out earlier in the day because, at that point, we didn’t know what the outcome would be and I figured on Election Day would be better than after…in case…what happened happens.
The funny, and totally valid and not-at-all surprising, thing about last month’s edition is that not a single person answered the poll. Again, that is absolutely fine and I do mean it. In light of that outcome, I only wrote one haiku for this month and I used my friends, family, acquaintances, community, and all you readers as the inspiration.
Being able to share my work on a regular schedule, experiment with new or different forms of writing, and make a little connection with you all is really the inspiration for this whole endeavor. And I really want to take this moment to thank you for being here, paid or unpaid. It’s humbling to have any number of people reading at all and I try not to take that for granted.
As the year closes out, I also think it’s time for a special promotion. I would say a ‘gift’ but honestly, if you pay to subscribe you’re giving me the gift. As noted, there are a few perks—I unlocked last month’s haiku salon so you can get an idea of what it’s more normally like—but mostly becoming a paying subscriber is a little bit of extra support for the work and for me, a writer stumbling her way through an artistic career and, let’s face it, life.
Right. The promotion. I’m calling it the Holiday Hoo-Be Whatty Special and it’s a 40% discount for the next 12 months on all new paid subscriptions between now and 12/31/24. I think it works for both free subscribers upgrading and for new paid subscriptions. So, if you were thinking about upgrading, now is a great time to do it.
Or, if you know someone who would like this newsletter and/or likes a discount, it’s also a great time to share it.
If you can’t do either, that is totally okay! I get it. Whew howdy, do I. Again, I’m just glad you’re here at all.
All that said, I’m taking next month off the literary salon as a holiday break. I’ll be back in January with all your favorite, er…some haikus.
Enough jibber-jabber! (But not enough sap, yet.) Let’s get to what we all came for. A haiku. A haiku that is dedicated to you all and is something, I hope, that reminds you how important it is that you’re around at all.
Thank you for being you.

in this dark world, thank
you for your kind whispers and
particles of light
