And a good day to you all.
I am continuing on with the subscription donation project. I haven’t picked the organization for December yet but watch this space for the announcement in the next newsletter. If you are new here (welcome!), you can always find more details of the project on my About page. And, as always, thank you for being here.
Well, it’s December. Here we are. December is the month of gift guides. Gift guides for anything and everything! And guess what? This is another gift guide that no one asked for! You’re welcome!
One note:
These ideas were sourced from various gift guides such as Girls Night In, Wirecutter/NYTimes, The Spruce, Vogue, lists on Etsy, and so on. As well as from my own head and friends heads.
Now onto the veritable cornucopia of links.
Experiences
Rent a van and go camping. Go nuts with some paint by number kits. Sign up to have historical figures as a penpal. Be a tourist in your own city. (New Yorkers, have you been to Governors Island yet?) Create a treasure hunt. Take some kind of class together. Honestly, I think the best suggestion for this kind of thing is to ask the giftee what their favorite movie, tv show, place, museum, book, album etc. is and experience it with them and/or for them.
Consumables
There are many ways to spice things up. A lot of ways. Seriously so many ways to get spicy. One can never have too many beverages, be it tea or coffee, bubbly or something prominent and rich. You can never go wrong with nice oil or a special ingredient for the kitchen. And we can’t forget dessert! There’s plenty of chocolate based options. Take the cake truffle route or jump on straight up cookies. And, of course, there are gummies for those less chocolate-inclined.
Sustainable
Reusable bags or present wrapping options are good places to start. Shampoo bars, conditioner bars, and lotion bars are all the rage. Cleaning supplies aren’t necessarily exciting, but they are useful. Consumable options here! And options for all through the house here. If someone is looking to start small on a zero or low waste journey, check out some kits here. Dress it up with some clothes and jewelry.
Mugs
There’s the classic NYC coffee cup or a nod to Dolly herself. Can’t afford any Le Creuset cookware? Start with a mug instead. Some more minimalist options or bespeckled options. There is this little splurge of a mug. This one is for your cold beverages friend. And let’s never forget fun novelty options such as this ode to romantic comedies, this affirmation for a Swiftie or this “if you know you know” sort of mug.
What to buy for that one person who always says “oh you know me! Anything you think I’d like!”
Look, if someone is not even going to hint, I think all bets are off and anything goes. Assuming you know their birthday, zodiac-related items like a necklace or socks might be a good place to start. Or you can build them a care package. There is always the notebook option. Keychains or disco-flavored art are a more unique spin. Interactive gifts are fun or a gift they’d have to put together themselves. If all else fails, buy them this and maybe next year they’ll actually give you some ideas.
This is where we’d be done but…more links with the selfies below. Again, you’re welcome.

A more serious aside for this one:
Honestly, I hate this picture but, I’m really trying to remember this for myself.

Ornaments are a good staple. Ones related to classic drinks are fun!

Believe it or not, you can look cooler than me. Start with any version of this hat.
