I make no guarantees that every ‘angle’ will be ‘angle’ and not ‘angel.’
It is irrefutable that the best angle for a selfie is achieved by holding the phone slightly above eye level and a little diagonal from your eye line. This minimizes your eight double chins and gives you a *chefs kiss* face shape.
As I mentioned in an earlier newsletter, that’s not what I’m doing here. I decided early on not to worry about the “best” selfies. I knew I needed to take them no matter what and getting wrapped up in the “best” was going to kill the project lickity split.
However, in an exercise in proving you exist from day-to-day during a cloudy world moment with a nebulous timeline, you do have to play with some angles. Well, all angles. To see yourself in one way is a mirage. To let others only see you in one way is…social media. And look, sometimes you have to curate yourself for a specific platform or jobs (yeahhh…don’t look at my LinkedIn. It’s…a lot.). You might also curate because of family or to protect your safety and your peace. Sometimes, this curation is a way to find your people and connect. My social media is absolutely no different.
With that in mind, in this project all about truly seeing myself on a daily basis, I had to ask a few questions. What would be the point of curating myself in photos that, at the time, I wasn’t sure anyone else would ever see? Why would you protect yourself from a peace that you haven’t discovered yet?
Well, I don’t know if those questions even have conscious answers. But, I do know that you can certainly see my delightful décolletage from any angle.

Front facing mirror selfie where she’s technically…naked!

The angle for this front-facing mirror selfie is the 1982 seminal classic Annie which, in my opinion, is the definitive version across stage and screen.

Straight on with bread dough remnants. Because, yes I did.

Straight on with big eyes and delicious fresh bread.
Aside: it should be noted that I probably did this particular bread recipe three times over the last few years and it only really worked for me that first time. Maybe the angles helped.
