Hello illustrious paid newsletter friends!
It feels like it’s been a full year since I did a round of haikus. While it hasn’t actually been a year since the last haikus, these are the first haikus of the new year. So, welcome to the 18th installment of the monthly literary salon filled with haikus. Normally, I have y’all pick the theme but this time, I took that on myself.
I’ll be honest. I had a whole theme in mind. I was already writing the haikus in my head. And then, I claimed my last week of unemployment (fully yikes) and that theme got usurped. It felt like the perfect time to bring back a classic for a month, the rejection haikus.
Yes, these are haikus I write solely with words from rejection emails I have received recently. As a playwright, rejection is part of the territory. As a job seeker, same. So, I always have a few rejections on hand. Bonus: the first haiku is written from words in the End of Unemployment Benefits emails. What. fun.
It is also time to get back to letting y’all pick the topic for these haikus. So be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom and answer the poll.
